For Marcus Leung, the path from studying architecture at CUHK to designing award-winning buildings across Asia was paved with determination, creativity, and a deep appreciation for the cultural heritage he explored during his university years.
“CUHK’s campus itself was my first teacher,” Marcus says with a smile. “Nestled in the hills of Sha Tin, surrounded by that stunning landscape — it taught me that great architecture works with nature, not against it.”
After graduating in 2012, Marcus spent five years at a renowned Hong Kong firm before founding his own practice, Leung & Associates, which now has offices in Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Singapore.
His recent project, a sustainable community centre in Tuen Mun, won the Hong Kong Institute of Architects’ Young Architect Award. The design incorporates traditional Chinese courtyard principles with modern green building technology.
“Everything I design carries a piece of what I learned at CUHK — respect for context, attention to human experience, and the courage to innovate. I’m proud to give back by guest lecturing every semester.”
